The Cinelli Brothers - Live at Dunkertons

The Award-winning London based Blues band The Cinelli Brothers rocked Dunkertons in Charlton Kings, near to Cheltenham, Gloucestershire this week.

The band who won the UK Blues Award competition in 2022, and were runners-up at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee in January 2023, had a line up of Marco Cinelli (vocals, keyboard & guitar), Alessandro Cinelli (drums and backing vocals), Tom Julian-Jones (guitar, harmonica and backing vocals) and Stephen Giry (bass & lead guitar and vocals).

The band’s new album ‘Almost Exactly’ was previewed at the gig with copies on sale. Its official launch is taking place on 27th January 2024 at The Cutting Room, New York, USA.

Supporting The Cinelli Brothers was local Cheltenham artist Ben Lee, who co-wrote the track on the new album ‘Lucky Star’.

Lead singer Marco Cinelli entertained the crowds with his passionate singing, playing and antics. Tom Julian-Jones (who is the only Brit in the band) played a variation of electric guitar or harmonica on songs from the new album and their back catalogue. Stephen Giry was a bit of a virtuoso playing initially the bass guitar, before moving to lead guitar, with the bass line played by Marco on the keyboards. He even swapped his bass guitar with Alessandro who played the bass whilst Stephen played a quieter version of drumming!

The songs played on the new album included ‘Last Throw of the Dice’, Ain’t Blue But I Sigh’, Nobody’s Fool’ ‘Fools Paradise’ and ‘Prayer’ amongst others.

Ben Lee was called up to the stage to play Tennessee Whisky with the band in a jam and leading the vocals.

The band also played some Blues standards including ‘Spell on Me’, ‘So Far, So Good’ and ‘Chew My Gum’.

The encore, which was in a funky blues style like Sly & The Family Stone, included a five minute drum solo from Alessandro, before the rest of the band came back to finish the song to great applause from the audience.
