Funk Night a Great Fundraiser for Cotswold Olimpicks 2019

The Robert Dover’s Cotswold Olimpick Games committee, led by Chairman Tom Threadgill are arranging lots of events to raise funds for the 2019 edition of the Cotswold Olimpicks.

The Games were recently recognised with the 2018 Olimpick Games being a Finalist in the Pride of the Cotswold awards.

One of the early events organised was a soul/funk/disco evening in the tent in the garden of The Volunteer Inn in Chipping Campden. An outside bar was provided with a selection of beers and other drinks, along with glow sticks!.
The main act was very popular local funk group Kinky Farnham with support from Good Knight Hall.

The entertained the growing crowds with renditions including Kiss, Master Blaster, Three Little Birds, I’m Yours, I got you and Groove is in the heart. Good Knight Hall are based just up the road in Stratford-upon-Avon

After a short break local band Kinky Farnham (with members based in and around Chipping Campden and Mickleton) took the stage.

The band are led on lead vocal by Games Committee Chair Tom Threadgill, with Laura Padley & Lisa Chapman also adding vocals. The horn section has Chris Slatter on trumpet and Meg Graham on sax. On lead guitar is Ben Bryan with his brother Teebs Bryan on keyboards. Giving the great bass line was William Bennett, with Leon Irons on Drums with his Dad Neil on percussion. So, the 10 piece band have arranged themselves just enough room to perform.

By now the tent was very full with the local audience who both wanted to support the Games as well as seeing Kinky Farnham play live again.

The band played lots of disco, soul and funk throughout the night including Barefootin’, I can’t Go for That, Blame it On the Boogie, Never Give Up on a Good Thing, Car Wash, Knock on Wood and Nutbush City Limits. The crowds were dancing at the front and enjoying the nights entertainment.

The next event organised by the Games committee is the Chipping Campden Chilli Eating Competition on Saturday 27th October, taking place at Toke’s Food and Drink in Chipping Campden (owned and run by Kinky Farnham bassist William Bennett.

As the Robert Dover’s Cotswold Olimpick Games committee chair Tom Threadgill said after the Funk night “We are planning lots of events leading up to the 2019 Games so please either like the Facebook Page or visit the Games website at www.olimpickgames.co.uk .”

As it states on the website “As ever, the games can only go ahead with the support of the local community and we’ll be making it easier to become part of the Games this year.”
